Searching For Things To Cook At School? Look No Further.

Conquer The College Kitchen (Link: http://conquerthecollegekitchen.wordpress.com/ ) is a blog created to help students who are completely clueless in the kitchen. The blog was started by Bridget Shannon as part of an assignment in her journalism class. In the middle of the class, Bridget realized that she was passionate about her blog and wanted to continue it.

The idea for the blog started as a way to help students who were moving off campus and needed help with cooking. Bridget’s goals for the blog in the upcoming year are to continue posting articles and to upgrade the domain name. She hopes to continue to grow her traffic and would like to reach a larger audience. In addition to Conquer the College Kitchen, Bridget has started a new blog that is focusing on the research of how non-profits effectively utilize social media. This idea grew from the summer that she spent in China.

Bridget sees her blogs as helping UCONN students who don’t have other resources they can turn to. Most students don’t cook for themselves so there is a need for this.

Bridget is a senior this year. She is majoring in journalism and anthropology. After graduation she is hoping to write in either the travel or food industry. In addition to her blogs, Bridget is also a study abroad student ambassador. She became an ambassador after studying in London two years ago. She is a also a a peer mentor for a first year experience class, so she works with an instructor that teaches freshmen students about transitioning from high school to college.

Asked if there was anything she wanted UCONN students to know, Bridget talked about how much the Journalism department at UCONN has benefitted her. She believes the journalism department at UCONN is great because it is very practical about where the future of journalism is heading.
