Delta Chi President Mark Gaudette On The Upcoming Year

Posted on 09.20.2010 by Conrad Egusa

The Delta Chi Fraternity is a Greek fraternity on campus with 42 active members and 14 new associate members. The fraternity has been on campus since 1950.

I had the opportunity to speak to Mark Gaudette, who is this year’s President. Unlike many students who rush fraternities in their first year of school, Mark rushed during his sophomore year and rose to serve as President the following year. Mark says that joining the Delta Chi fraternity was one of the best decisions he has made at UCONN.

The fraternity’s goals this year focus on giving back to the community. This year the fraternity is holding a “Chocolate Pudding Tug-O-War” philanthropic event at South Campus on Friday, October 1st at 12:00pm. All proceeds will be given to the Jimmy V foundation. This past Sunday, they teamed up with the Delta Chi chapters from New Haven and UMass in doing a walk for diabetes in East Hartford. In addition, Delta Chi holds an annual scholarship event each Spring where members receive awards for their academic and fraternal excellence. The event is open for anyone in the student body to attend as Delta Chi brings in various alumni speakers to share their experiences on life after graduation.

One thing Mark and I talked about were the common misconceptions about college social fraternities. Mark believes that many of the stereotypes that exist are inaccurate and that people tend to overlook most of the positive things that fraternities do for the UConn community and student body.

Mark is a senior real estate and urban economics major and is pursuing a minor in environmental economics and policy. Last summer he interned at as a Research Analyst for Real Capital Analytics in NYC and he currently works at the real estate center at UCONN. Mark is a recipient of the SIOR/ Samuel F. Pierson Scholarship, the Connecticut Association of Realtors Past President Scholarship, and is has made the School of Business Dean’s List for numerous semesters.
